2023 TNM SUPER LEAGUE PROMISES TIGHT RACE

The end is more important than the beginning so they say, but Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC are not taking things lightly in the new 2023 TNM Super League campaign.

The Lali Lubani Road boys on Sunday stamped their authority on Match week 1 by claiming top spot on the log standings with an emphatic 2-0 home victory over Civil Service United at the Kamuzu Stadium.

With the win the nomads are above MAFCO FC and Mighty Tigers in second and third positions respectively after the pair also registered wins in their opening fixtures.

Both the Nomads and the Salima based troopers scored two goals against their adversaries in a weekend where goals were not easy to come by.

From a competition perspective, the opening week signals a race in the next 29 weeks towards the ultimate prize, under the defence of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.

The defending champions themselves came out of a hard earned draw ina a top of the billing opening fixture away to Silver Strikers at the gigantic Bingu National Stadium on Saturday.

Only three teams managed victories on the opening weekend while ten teams drew against each other.

Three teams-Civil Service United, Extreme FC and Chitipa United FC lost their opening matches, coincidentally all of the three suffered defeats away from home.

Extreme FC and Chitipa United are newly promoted sides who have tasted the heat of top flight football by being bruised in the opening battles.

Another new kid on the bloc Bangwe All Stars managed to get a point away to Dedza Dynamos Salima Sugar where resilience by the newly promoted side was on display in a match they led for a good part only to concede the equalizer in the second half.

As we move into the second week of the campaign, it would be exciting to see how the league shapes up including other crucial elements of the game such as officiation, technical issues and marketing of the game inorder to increase revenues for clubs.
