35 Point Mark out of reach as 2026 first round enters final three weeks

With just three weeks remaining before the first round of the 2026 FDH Bank Premiership concludes, one thing is already certain: no team will match the 35-point tally achieved by Mighty Wanderers at the same stage last season.

The 2025 Super League first-round race saw Mighty Wanderers finish top after 15 games with 35 points, having won 10 matches and drawn five without defeat. FCB Nyasa Big Bullets were just a point behind on 34, while Silver Strikers had 30 points.

This season, the pace has been notably different.

After 12 matches, Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles lead the 2026 FDH Bank Premiership standings on 25 points, with Mighty Wanderers and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on 23 points each.

With only three matches left, the best any of the current leaders can achieve is 34 points- one short of last season’s benchmark.

Silver Strikers have enjoyed the strongest start, recording seven wins, four draws and one defeat, while Blue Eagles have eight wins, one draw and three defeats. Mighty Wanderers and Big Bullets have both managed six wins, five draws and one defeat.

The comparison further highlights the difference in the pace at the top. At the same point last season, Mighty Wanderers were already sitting on 35 points after 15 matches, while the current leaders have 25 points after 12 games.

The battle is, however, far from settled.

The gap between first and fourth is currently just two points, meaning the final three weeks could still produce significant movement at the top.

Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles will be looking to maintain their positions, while Mighty Wanderers and Big Bullets remain firmly in the hunt.

Further down the table, the fight for safety is equally tight. Kamuzu Barracks and Civil Service are level on 11 points, while Creck sit bottom on five. At the same stage last season, Mzuzu City Hammers had eight points and Songwe United just two.

With 35 points now mathematically out of reach, who will set the new benchmark for the 2026 first round?
