We start Match week five on a low note as we pay our last tributes to the departed Moyale Barracks shot-stopper Simeon Harawa who died on Tuesday Morning in Mzuzu.
Harawa’s death sent shocking waves as just last Saturday the goalie was in between the sticks as the Lions of Kaning’ina played out to a -1 all against Civo United at Mzuzu Stadium.
His body was laid to rest on Thursday at his home village in Rumphi district.
And following this tragic news, the Match involving Moyale Barracks and Karonga United which was one of the four fixtures of match week five will not proceed and will be rescheduled to a date to be announced.
May Simeon’s soul continue resting in peace.
Another match that has been rescheduled in match week five is that of Chitipa United and Kamuzu Barracks which was schedule for Karonga Stadium.
Reasons beyond the league’s governing body control have necessitated this rescheduling and a new date for this fixture will be communicated in due course.
Following these two separate developments, Match week five only has two fixtures as other teams were already exempted as they have contributed a majority of their players to the senior Malawi National Team which faces South Africa’s Bafana Bafana this Saturday at the Bingu National Stadium in a CHAN qualifier.
We begin week five from Nankhaka Stadium where the struggling Civo United play guest to neighbors Blue Eagles in a match that qualifies for a Lilongwe derby.
The Civil servants are finding life tough in the 2025 season as they lie on position 14 having just collected a single point from three games and that point came last Saturday away to Moyale Barracks in a game they also scored their first goal of the season.
Abbas Makawa’s troops must quickly redeem themselves and move away from the drop zone as this is not the position which ma servants are accustomed to.
As for the Eagles they are slowly picking up having started the season with defeat but since that opening weekend defeat to Mighty Wanderers, Elliah Kananji and his charges have gone on to win two and draw one and currently occupy position 3 on the log and a win on Sunday would see them leapfrog table topping FCB Nyasa Big Bullets who are not in action this weekend.
The only other fixture of Match week five is at Champion Stadium where under pressure gaffer Joseph Kamwendo and his Creck Sporting boys welcome the unpredictable Mighty Tigers.
Both teams have had a bad start to the season with Creck Sporting yet to win a match after three games and are sitting on position 15 with a single point while their opponents are on position 12 with 3 points from 4 games having only won once and lost 3.
This is a game that has potential of turning around the fortunes for both sides as a win for either side will uplift the morale in camp, of course Creck Sporting need it most to ease the pressure on mentor Joseph Kamwendo.
So we go into week five with 73 goals in four weeks and those goals have involved 39 individuals.
There has been no hat-trick yet but the front runners for the golden boot award are Bullets duo of Babatunde Adepoju and Wongani Lungu, Wanderers’ Wisdom Mpinganjira, Zeliati Nkhoma of Kamuzu Barracks and Blue Eagles’ Sholigah Stambuli all tied at 3 goals.
No one who has been sent for an early shower yet.
Will eagles fly high to leapfrog Bullets at the top? Or Abbas Makawa’s moment has finally come.
