Songwe Boarder’s miserable start to life in the TNM Super League continues as the Karonga based side were thrashed 4-1 at home by defending champions Silver Strikers on Thursday.
Man of the moment for the Central Bankers Festus Duwe banged a brace with the other goals coming from Chimwemwe Idana and Emmanuel Allan.
Duwe put the Bankers ahead as early as first minute of the match before completing his brace on 34 minutes this was after Songwe had made an early goalkeeping substitution withdrawing goalkeeper Francis Mwabango for Ringstar Galima with just 6 minutes played.
The first half finished with the Bankers leading 2-0 but that lead would be immediately extended just a minute into the second half with midfielder Chimwemwe Idana registering his name on the scoresheet.
The hosts were then dealt a blow on 47 minutes when Suzgo Mwakasinga was shown a straight red card for using foul language on the referee.
Songwe were then handed a lifeline on 68 minutes when they were awarded a penalty which was coolly converted by Wongani Kamanga beating goalkeeper George Chikooka.
However, any hopes of levelling the scores were dashed on 85 minutes when Emmanuel Allan extended the defending champions’ lead and 1-4 is how it would finish much to the delight of head coach Peter Mgangira whose season is yet to click into gear.
That win has now moved the Central Bankers into 6th position with 7 points from 4 games while Songwe are still rooted at the bottom of the table with just a single point from 6 games.
