All mid-week 20 action dissected
Attention will this week shift to Kamuzu Stadium where 2 teams with ownership ties square up at Kamuzu Stadium as Mighty Wanderers welcome their baby brother Ekhaya FC on Thursday.
It will be a father vs son battle as Mighty Wanderers is chaired by Thom Mpinganjira whose son William heads the Ekhaya FC Board.
However on the field, both teams will have to put away those family connections and focus on the ultimate goal which is claiming maximum points at the end of 90 minutes.
At the rate at which the league is progressing, both teams have no luxury to drop any points.
Wanderers have set their sights on winning the league and they will be aiming for maximum points so that they narrow the gap on leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets to just one point.
The Nomads’ strength this season has been their ability to keep clean sheets with Goalkeeper Dalitso Khungwa going 9 games without conceding.
This Thursday’s fixture is no ordinary as along it comes pride and the Nomads will be eager to earn supreme over a team that was just born some 3 seasons ago.
A win on Thursday will ensure that Bob Mpinganjira’s boys have completed a double over Ekhaya as the Nomads also emerged victorious in the first round.
For Ekhaya though they will have to prove that they are not just a team for the so called small teams as by this far they are yet to collect a point over the big three teams.
Enos Chatama will come into this match eager to prove a point that he has assembled a team ready to compete at the highest level.
Currently on position 6 with 29 points, a win will move them closer to a top 4 position a no mean feat for a team competing in the top flight league for the first time.
Chatama will however have to do without holding midfielder Moses Banda who was sent off in their last game against Songwe United.
Before Thursday’s fixture there are other 4 fixtures spread across on Wednesday a day Malawi celebrates the pride of mothers.
Relegation candidates Songwe Boarder begins life without suspended Coach Christopher Nyambose with a home fixture against Chitipa United.
Songwe’s destiny is now out of their hands and a miracle is all they are praying for if they are to see the light of super league football again next season.
With 2 points from 19 games, Songwe are 18 points off safety and such they will need to win 6 back to back games to guarantee their super league status.
They face a Chitipa side currently on 9th position with 23 points from 19 games.
Other fixtures on Wednesday Creck sporting are on the road to face the struggling Mighty Tigers while another potential relegation candidate Mzuzu City Hammers welcome Dedza Dynamos.
At Champion stadium, Mafco FC welcome Karonga United.
Will Ekhaya overpower Wanderers and reclaim some bragging rights? Or it will be the Lali Lubani boys going away with all maximum points?
