Mighty Wanderers left it late to claim all maximum over Songwe United to move top of the table for the first time in the second round.
A clement Nyondo strike on 86 minutes and another one in added time by Cameroonian Sama Thierry were enough to hand Bob Mpinganjira the much needed 3 point in the Nomads’ pursuit for the league title.
The nomads were coming into the match oozing with confidence after their 3-0 win over rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
However, the Lali Lubani outfit failed to reciprocate last Sunday’s performance giving a lackluster performance especially in the first half.
It was some changes that the blue boys came to the party with Nyondo grabbing the Nomads’ first goal before Sama ensured of victory deep in stoppage time.
The win has seen the Nomads leapfrog their rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at the top opening up a 2-point gap with 21 games played so far.
As for Songwe its now just a matter of formalities before their relegation is confirmed as with 22 games played, they have only managed to collect 5 points.
Elsewhere on Wednesday, Mzuzu City Hammers’ woes continue as they were beaten 1-0 by Kamuzu Barracks at Civo Stadium courtesy of a 74 minute Zeliat Nkhoma strike.
