Masters’ litmus test

Unbeaten league leaders Masters FC’s impressive form to the season will face real test this weekend as Peter Mponda’s troops travel to area 47 to face Mponda’s former employers, Silver Strikers in a match that has huge potential of dividing the city of Lilongwe though its too early to call it a derby.

Masters FC have gotten off to a perfect start winning all three of their opening round fixtures beating Chitipa United, Karonga United and LUANAR Mitundu FC in a run that has seen them score five goals and concede just once.

This Sunday they travel to area 47 where current Masters FC coach Peter Mponda brought league glory ending an 11 year drought for the central bankers.

It’s more of the return of a prodigal son to his father’s homeland after almost two years of wandering in the wilderness.

This meeting couldn’t have come at any better time than this as the Central Bankers are coming into this fixture straight from last weekend’s disappointing 1-0 defeat away to Blue Eagles.

Obviously the Bankers will be out there to redeem themselves and make a serious statement about their title aspirations.

On  Sunday its a battle of an elder brother who returns to his father’s home to face his younger now in charge of all home affairs.

A win for the home team would see them move level on points with the early league leaders, while for the visitors, victory would open up a six points gap.

Apart from head coach Peter Mponda, others who will be returning to their former home will be defender goalkeeper Brighton Munthali, defenders Chisomo Mpachika and Precious Sambani, striker Stain Davie.

But before Sunday’s pick of the week clash, action starts on Saturday with Creck Sporting hosting winless Kamuzu Barracks where as Civil Service United are away in Chitipa to face Chitipa United.

Defending champions Mighty Wanderers are on the road to Dedza to face LUANAR Mitundu FC while winless Ekhaya have a home tie against Moyale.

In Sunday’s other action, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets face Red Lions FC while Karonga United welcomes MAFCO with fifth placed Blue Eagles FC travelling away to Dedza to face bottom of the table Goshen City Dedza Dynamos FC.
