The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) pays tribute to its Executive Committee Member Henry Banda, whose unwavering commitment to the growth of football left an enduring mark on the game.
Banda passed away on 18 July 2026 and was laid to rest on 20 July 2026, bringing to a close a remarkable chapter of service that spanned more than a decade.
Having joined the SULOM Executive Committee in 2015, Banda dedicated himself to advancing the administration of the country’s top-flight league. Throughout his tenure, he earned the respect of fellow executive members, club officials and the wider football fraternity through his tireless work ethic, calm leadership and unwavering passion for the sport.
Whether in boardroom discussions or at league matches across the country, Banda was known for putting the interests of Malawian football first. He believed in teamwork, fairness and the continuous development of the Super League.
SULOM President Brigadier General Gilbert Mittawa described Banda as “a hardworking, passionate and humble administrator who truly loved the game of football.”
Beyond his official responsibilities, Banda will be remembered as a dependable colleague who was always willing to listen, support others and work towards solutions that benefited the league.
As SULOM continues its mission of reviving, reforming and rebranding football in Malawi, Henry Banda’s contribution will remain part of the league’s history. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy will continue to inspire future football administrators.
May his soul continue to rest in eternal peace.
