Nomads reclaim top spot

Mighty Wanderers climbed back to the top of the TNM Super League log with a convincing 3-0 home victory over Mighty Tigers on Wednesday afternoon to take their tally to 55.

The Nomads had temporarily relinquished top spot to noisy neighbors FCB Nyasa Big Bullets following their 2-2 draw against Silver Strikers and Bullets’ win over Civil Service United.

On Wednesday the nomads returned to action to face Mighty Tigers which is regarded as Wanderers’ feeder team and true to that assertion, the Nomads had 5 former Mighty Tigers players in the starting eleven(Isaac Kaliati, Peter Cholopi, Dalitso Khungwa, Masiya Manda and Stanley Sanudi).

Tigers were the first to settle in the match playing a high pressing game which the nomads were failing to contain with.

Head coach Bob Mpinganjira knew he was in for some trouble and there was need to take action and he was forced to withdraw captain Felix Zulu and defender Masiya Manda for Rajab Nyirenda and Adam Wallace towards the end of the first half.

That substitution however did not yield any impact in the first half as the 2 teams headed for recess at goalless.

Wanderers upped their tempo in the second half piling pressure on the KauKau boys and their coveted moment came through veteran striker Muhammad Sulumba who put the nomads ahead with a cool finish.

That goal unsettled the youthful KauKau side and few minutes later they were on the receiving end again following a beautiful move from the nomads orchestrated by red hot midfielder Blessings Singini.

Singini started the move himself from deep in midfield and the nomads proceeded to complete over 15 touches before Singini crossed the ball for
substitute Blessings Mwalilino to slot home.

The nomads were not done yet as former Tigers midfielder Isaac Kaliati had unfinished business with his former employers.

Kaliati added a third goal minutes after the Nomads’ second to put the game beyond Tigers reach.

That win has seen Wanderers open up a 2 point gap FCB Nyasa Big Bullets from the same number of games but Bullets can return to the top with a win
over Kamuzu Barracks on Thursday afternoon.

Elsewhere on Wednesday ,defending Champions Silver Strikers cemented their grip on third position with a 3-0 win over Moyale Barracks.

Former Moyale Barracks forward Emmanuel Allan who came in as a second half substitute was the hero of the day as he bagged home his first hattrick in
Silver colors.

At Karonga Stadium, Goshen City Dedza Dynamos made work difficult for themselves as they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Karonga United.

Dedza badly needed to win to enhance their chances of survival but that defeat has now complicated matters.
