Blantyre giants FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Zomba based military side Red Lions remain the only two sides yet to taste defeat this far heading into week five of action in the FDH Premiership league.
Pick of the action’s weekend is at Zomba stadium where defending champions Mighty Wanderers welcome Lilongwe giants Silver Strikers, a team they dethroned of the championship last season.
Ahead of this fixture, we took time to single out some potential match winners of a tie that is never short of drama as tempers flare.
Both teams are coming from convincing victories and they head into this match oozing with confidence.
Silver are coming from a resounding 3-0 victory over Masters FC while the nomads won 2-0 away in Dedza against LUANAR Mitundu FC.
Potential match winners
Wanderers vs Silver is no ordinary fixture.
It requires something special from someone special.
For the past two seasons, Silver had forward Binwell Katinji who was proving to be a thorn in Wanderers defence’s flesh.
Now Katinji is no longer at area 47 as he moved to Zimbabwe, who steps up and fill the gap?
Coach Peter Mgangira has a whole pool of attacking talent at his disposal.
Captain Zebron Kalima seem to be maturing with time as this season he has been the Bankers’ driving force in the four games they have played so far winning three and losing one and currently occupy top spot.
On a good day the combination of Kalima, fellow attacker Festus Duwe and forward Andrew Joseph can be menacing as was the case in last Sunday’s encounter where the Bankers run riot over newcomers Masters FC.
For Wanderers, Promise Kamwendo seem to have now found his feet at Lali Lubani as the goals are slowly coming his way.
Bob Mpinganjira and his backroom staff will be banking their hopes on Kamwendo, Cameroonian forward Sam Tajong and youthful but talented Adam Walesi to be in fine form on Sunday if a result is to be achieved at the Nomads’ second home Zomba stadium.
Bookmakers favourite A simple analysis of the two team’s meetings over the past decade favours the central bankers.
In 20 meetings between 2015-2025, Silver has had an upper hand over the nomads.
The Bankers have managed to register nine wins against Wanderers’ four with seven matches ending in draws.
Its a record the Lali Lubani boys wouldn’t want to be associated with and on Sunday, the mission will be to narrow that gap with their opponents who currently occupy top position harbouring plans of extending their stay at the top.
Elsewhere, at Civo stadium is the battle of second vs fourth as Blue Eagles FC welcome the unbeaten FCB Nyasa Bullets.
The Eagles have been in some fine form lately winning three of their opening four matches while their opponent have been inconsistent having won two and drawn twice as well.
While statistics of the past decade favours Bullets who have won seven out of the 18 previous meetings where Eagles have won four with the rest ending in draws, last season’s figures favour the area 30 side.
Last season, Eagles managed to collect four points over Bullets having won 1-0 away and drawing 0-0 at home, a very unfamiliar result against a Bullets side well known for banging goals for fun.
So, for Bullets is mission revenge, while for Eagles its mission three points to stay in touch with the leaders whom are only separated by goal difference.
