As Ekhaya return to winning ways
Midfielder Moses Banda scored the opening goal but could not last 90 minutes as he was shown marching orders on a day Ekhaya FC returned to winning ways with an emphatic 4-1 victory over relegation bound Songwe Border on Saturday afternoon at Mpira Stadium.
Ekhaya had gone 3 games without a win heading into Saturday’s fixture and pressure was mounting on coach Enos Chatama who was the busiest on the transfer market during the mid-season transfer window reinforcing his squad.
On Saturday Ma Ekha made sure of all the 3 points to ease pressure on Chatama while compounding more misery on Songwe who are still in search of their first win of the season.
Midfielder Moses Banda, signed from Civo United during the mid-season transfer window scored his first goal for his new team with the other goals coming from Levison Mnyenyembe, Alick Lungu and Emmanuel Savieli while Songwe’s consolation came from Moses Joseph who converted from the spot.
However Ekhaya’s celebrations were tainted with a red card shown to Moses Banda following a second bookable offence towards the end of the match.
The win has seen Ekhaya’s points tally jump to  29 but they still remain on position 6 a point behind 5th placed Civo who are in action on Sunday away in Mzuzu against Mzuzu Hammers.
For Songwe they remain rock bottom with 2 points and only mathematical calculations are what is keeping them in the top flight league but otherwise their chances of survival are just too minimal on a fraction of 1/10.
At the bottom of the table, things are now getting exciting by each passing game as at Mzuzu stadium Moyale Barracks came from 2 goals down to force a 2-all draw against fellow relegation candidates Mighty Tigers FC.
Tigers had gone ahead with 2 quick first half goals from Harrison Kapata and Masambiro Kalua but Raphael Phiri reduced the deficit for Moyale during first half added time.
Moyale came a changed side in the second half and it came as no surprise when veteran defender Ntopijo Njewa levelled the matters with 76 minutes played into the match, 2-2 is how it would finish.
The result has seen Tigers stuck in the relegation zone on position 14 with 17 points from 19 games while as for Moyale they seat on position 13,a point just above the drop zone with 20 points from 19 games.
Elsewhere at Champion stadium in a brotherly affair, MAFCO FC forced their way into the match to claim a point over hosts Kamuzu Barracks as the Salima based soldiers snatched a later equalizer to force a draw in a match they had given away an early lead.
China Chirwa had given MAFCO the lead after 14 minutes but 2 goals in succession from forward Zeliat Nkhoma and a Hope Namadzunda ensured that KB went to the break leading 2-1.
China Chirwa was MAFCO’s hero of the day as he completed his brace after 70 minutes to ensure that the 2 sides share the spoils.
The draw has done some justice to MAFCO FC who have now moved 5 points away from the drop zone in position 10 with 22 points while as for Kamuzu Barracks they remain on position 7 with 26 points from 19 games.
Action continue on Sunday with this week’s pick of the action involving defending Champions Silver Strikers squaring up against current league leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium.
