With league leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on bye this weekend due to cup commitments, three teams namely Ekhaya FC, Kamuzu Barracks and Moyale Barracks all have a chance of moving joint on points with the early league leaders.
We start week four action from Karonga stadium where winless Songwe Boarder United welcome the wounded Ekhaya FC in a battle that puts together this season’s new entrants.
Songwe are finding life hard in the top flight league as they are yet to score a goal let alone collect a point.
To make matters worse, they are proving to be the early Santa of the season as their defence has leaked in a record 12 goals in just 3 matches with last week’s 7-0 demolition by FCB Nyasa Big Bullets being a record for the season.
If they are to survive life in the top flight, surely the Karonga based side has to change the formula of doing things.
As for Ekhaya, they come into this match smarting from an away 1-0 defeat to Chitipa United, first in the top flight league having gone 2 games without defeat and without conceding.
Coach Enos Chatama will be hoping that his charges recover from that dismal performance as they have a chance of moving joint top on 9 points with league leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets if they collect maximum points.
At Mzuzu Stadium, struggling Civo United who are yet to score a goal and collect a point play guest to Moyale Barracks in a battle of two teams with contrasting fortunes as the Lions of Kaning’ina are yet to taste defeat in the league in 2 matches.
Moyale are coming from defeat in cup action and Coach Pritchard Mwansa has set his eyes on collecting maximum points so that they move top together the leaders.
As for Civo, it’s not looking all rosy for Coach Abbas Makawa and his troops as they return to the same pitch they played to a goalless draw against Mzuzu City Hammers last weekend in cup football.
Elsewhere at Chitowe it’s a battle between number 12 vs 11 as soldiers MAFCO FC welcomes last season’s surprise packages Mzuzu City Hammers.
Both teams have only managed to win once with MAFCO going down twice already this season while Hammers have lost once interestingly, both teams have suffered defeat at the hands of Kamuzu Barracks in the opening three rounds of fixtures.
On Sunday, attention will surely shift to Champion Stadium in Mponela where Kamuzu Barracks welcome defending Champions Silver Strikers who are yet to hit the ground running this season.
A win for the soldiers will see them move joint top of the log table while defeat for the Central Bankers will now pile pressure on new head coach Peter Mgangira.
Kamuzu Barracks are coming into this match with their tails high having collected maximum points away to Chitowe over Mafco while the Bankers were exempted form league football due to cup commitments but last time they were in a league action; they were frustrated to a 2-2 draw away to Chitipa United.
For Coach Peter Mgangira he needs to start getting the points if he is to defend the title which the bankers won last season after an 11-year drought.
Action continues on Sunday with Dedza Dynamos straight from their defeat against Tigers FC welcome Chitipa United who humbled new Boys Ekhaya FC over the weekend.
And we finish action in week four at Kamuzu Stadium where Mighty Tigers straight from their victory over Dedza Dynamos play host to Blue Eagles who are coming from a frustrating home draw against Creck Sporting.
The Eagles have had mixed fortunes on their return to top flight football having lost one, won one and drawn one so far while as for Tigers, victory over Dedza was their first of the season having lost to Ekhaya and Mighty Wanderers in their opening two fixtures.
Will Civo and Songwe collect their first point of the season?
Will we finish week 4 with joint top leaders at the summit?
Who do you place your money on?
Enjoy the action in Match week four.
