The 2016 TNM Super League Champions, Kamuzu Barracks on Wednesday afternoon recorded their 10th draw of the season in their goalless match against Karonga United.
While recording a10th draw in 17 games may not have been enough to describe how the Chiwoko-based side are struggling the soldiers their recent form do not paint a rosy picture.
Charles Kamanga’s side has extended their winless streak to eight games missing the chance to breathe within the neck of leaders Silver Strikers and second-placed Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.
Following the draw on Wednesday, KB missed the chance of climbing closer to Mzuzu City Hammers who have amassed 28 points following their win over league debutants FOMO FC last weekend.
The draw means KB has leapfrogged FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on the number of draws recorded this season for a single club as the defending Champions have registered 9 draws in the current campaign.
“Though we didn’t score, the boys really worked hard. Our strikers lacked composure in front of the goal and we have to work on it. It’s my duty as a coach to make things right,” he said.
TNM Super League current top scorer, KB’s Zeliati Nkhoma was not in the match day squad as Coach Kamanga said he didn’t perform well during the training.
Following the draw, Karonga United have just won one match in their last five league matches- beating FCB Nyasa Big Bullets. Ingwina used Rumphi stadium instead of Karonga Stadium as they are serving Football Association of Malawi’s ban not to use their home ground for three consecutive [home] games.
Both teams headed into the game at the back of poor records. Kamuzu Barracks’ last league win dates back to May 30 this year when they beat the same opponents 2-1 at home.
The victory was followed by two back-to-back barren stalemates before being stunned by Iponga FC in the FDH Bank Cup at Civo Stadium. They played three back-to-back two-all draws against Silver Strikers, Dedza Dynamos and CRECK Sporting Club thereafter.
KB suffered their heavy defeat this season at the hands of Chitipa United who are battling for survival in the elite league this season. They were hammered 4-1 and they haven’t scored in their recent two league matches against Mighty Waka Waka Tigers and Karonga United.
Oscar Kaunda’s side remains slumped to the bottom half of the table following the draw, they are 11th with 20 points from 17 games.
“We are not as steady as the way we have are used to,” admitted Kamanga. “We are going back to our training ground to polish those areas. We have 13 games and we are going to use those games to finish in a good position.”
KB will have three consecutive home matches as they face Baka City before taking on Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Mafco FC while Karonga United are facing their fellow north teams in their next three games. They will play against Moyale Barracks, Baka City and Chitipa United.
