The Super League of Malawi, through its Disciplinary Committee, summoned Mafco FC to address the disorder that took place during their match against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets on October 6, 2024, at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
The club was charged with four counts, including assault and acts of violence or attempted violence against fellow players, as well as bringing the league into disrepute.
During the hearing, Mafco FC, along with its players and officials, expressed remorse and readily accepted the charges. Their guilty pleas and formal apologies were clear indicators of their willingness to acknowledge responsibility. The Disciplinary Committee considered this cooperative stance when determining the penalties.
After evaluating all mitigating and aggravating factors, the Committee handed down six-match bans to Vitumbiko Phiri, Blessings Chandiyang’ana, and Christopher Mikuwa, effective immediately.
Additionally, each player received a straight red card, which will run concurrently with the ban.
Mafco FC was also fined a maximum of MK1,000,000 with a warning that any repeat offenses will lead to stricter punishments, including a possible league ban. The fine must be paid within 14 days.
The Committee also called on the National Referees Committee (NRC), through SULOM, to ensure that only competent referees are assigned to elite matches. They recommended sanctions for the officiating panel responsible for the FCB Nyasa Big Bullets vs Mafco match due to concerns over their performance.
