MIGHTY TIGERS ARE RELEGATED

Mzuzu City Hammers hang by a thread

One of the country’s seasoned top flight league campaigners Mighty Tigers have been relegated from the TNM super league after going down 1-0 away to Blue Eagles.

Tigers needed maximum points in their remaining 2 matches to stand any realistic chances of surviving the chop but that would not be the case as a sole Lanken Mwale stoppage time strike did the damage to mark an end to an illustrious journey for the KauKau boys which has spanned over 3 decades.

Regarded as the nursery of Malawi’s football, Tigers have produced several high profile names which have gone to grace the local and international football scene.

But now its back to reality for Technical Director Robin Alufandika and his troops as for the past 3 or so seasons, the team has been able to survive relegation towards the end of the season.

Elsewhere its only a matter of mathematics before Mzuzu City Hammers are confirmed as the third relegated team.

The hammers were humiliated 3-0 away to Silver Strikers and will now require to score more than 10 goals in their last game and whilst at the same time praying that Goshen City Dedza Dynamos who lost to Creck Sporting on Wednesday stumble again on the last day of the season.

So the the battle to avoid the drop seem now as a 3 horse race involving Mafco, Goshen City Dedza Dynamos and Mzuzu City Hammers.
