Blue Eagles FC became the record scorers of the first day of match week 2 as they recovered from their opening week 3-1 defeat in the hands of Mighty Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium.
Sholigah Stambuli was on target twice after goals from Micium Mhone and Schumacher Kuwali had put the Area 30 based two up in the first half.
At Karonga Stadium new Silver Strikers coach Peter Mgangira is still in search of his first win of the season as the Central Bankers gave away a 2-1 lead to draw 2-2 against Chitipa United.
Alex Benison had put the hosts ahead on 29 minutes from the spot but that lead was short-lived as a 34 minute Binwell Katinji strike levelled the scores.
The Central Bankers then took the lead in first half extra time through Chinsinsi Maonga but it would not be the Bankers’ day as Joseph Mbaga leveled the scores on 64 minutes.
Action in Match week two resumes on Sunday with last season’s runners up Mighty Wanderers playing away to Mighty Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium.
The 2 mighty sides from the commercial capital clash in what can best be described as a brotherly affair as Tigers have long been regarded as Wanderers’ feeder side.
Take for instance, the current Mighty Wanderers squad has Goalkeeper Dalitso Khungwa, Defenders Peter Cholopi and Stanley Sanudi as well as Midfielder Isaac Kaliati all graduates of the Mighty Tigers Academy.
Sunday’s fixture might have come so fast for Mighty Tigers who succumbed to a 2-0 victory on matchaweek1 to newcomers Ekhaya FC.
As for Mighty Wanderers a win with a high scoring margin puts them in pole position to move to the summit of the log table.
However Mighty Wanderers will have to bank on results from elsewhere if their ambitions of claiming pole position in matchweek2 is to be achieved as another side carrying a 3-1 score line from match week one Kamuzu Barracks is also in action against fellow Soldiers Moyale Barracks who themselves come into the match with 3 points already in the bag from week 1.
In Dedza, last weekend’s record makers Dedza Dynamos play host to wounded Mzuzu Hammers who went down 3-1 at the hands of the visiting Kamuzu Barracks.
In Karonga, hosts Karonga FC welcome soldiers MAFCO in what promises to be a balanced affair with both teams coming from 1-0 victories on match week one against Civil United and Chitipa United respectively.
