Relief was the prevailing atmosphere in the dressing rooms of Lilongwe’s two struggling sides as Creck Sporting and Civo United both recorded their first wins of the season.
Civo United cruised to a convincing 0-2 victory over Blue Eagles FC.
Precious Chipungu netted a brace to ease pressure on under fire coach Abbas Makawa.
It was an inspired second half performance as Chipungu was first on the scoresheet at 71 minutes before hitting the final nail on the head in extra time.
That win has moved the Civil servants to position 11 from 15, at least for now coach Abbas Makawa can afford a smile.
As for the eagles, this is the first time they have tasted defeat since match week one in which they went down 3-1 away to Mighty Wanderers.
The area 30 police sponsored side now occupy position 4 with 7 points.
At Champion Stadium in Mponela, Coach Joseph Kamwendo had all the reasons to smile as his boys gave out a strong performance to defend a 36 minute Babangida Ishaya goal to take home all the needed 3 points.
Coach Joseph Kamwendo was increasingly becoming under intense pressure as he was yet to record a win in 3 matches and has already bowed out of one domestic trophy at this early stage of the season.
Creck now occupy position 13 just a place above the drop zone.
Will Sunday’s victories mark a turnaround point for Creck and Civo?
Action returns in Match week six.
