SONGWE’S MOMENT

Another day, another week for relegation bound Songwe Border as just a week after suspending head coach Christopher Nyambose, the Karonga based side has recorded its first win of the season beating fellow northerners Chitipa United.

Songwe had gone 19 games without a win heading into today’s fixture and an 8th minute Owen Mwangonde strike was all the border boys needed to claim maximum points.

Wednesday’s win has taken Songwe’s tally to 5 points from 20 games.

In other fixtures, Mzuzu City Hammers enhanced their survival chances with a 1-0 home victory over Dedza Dynamos.

That win has seen Mzuzu Hammers move closer to safety, just 2 points off 13th placed Moyale FC.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, Mighty Tigers went down 1-2 at home against Creck Sporting to boost Elia Kananji boys’ chances of top 8 football as they now occupy 9th place with 25 points from 20 games.

At Champion stadium, Karonga United savaged a point in the dying minutes’ courtesy of Godfrey Sichinga and Anthony Mfune who scored 88 and 90 minutes respectively. MAFCO FC took the lead at 49 minutes before doubling it at 78 minutes.
