The Super League of Malawi has commenced investigations into circumstances that led to the abandoning of a TNM super league match involving Mighty Wanderers and Ekhaya FC on Wednesday 05 November 2025 at Kamuzu Stadium.
With the score line at 0-0, referee Honest Maulana called off the match after 52 minutes arguing the pitch was unplayable due to a heavy downpour that left the pitch waterlogged.
In a statement, Super League of Malawi General Secretary Williams Banda says the league’s governing body has now instituted investigations into the matter as it feels some match day protocols were violated in reaching at the decision to abandon the match.
‘We are currently investigating the matter to get us to how the match officials decided to end the match contrary to what is in the rule and regulations. In the rules and regulations it clearly gives mandate to the league organisers, in this case SULOM to assess the circumstances prevailing on the match venue that could either warrant continuation or abandonment’, said Banda.
According to Banda, the teams and match officials were supposed to wait at least for 40 minutes before making a decision in consultation with Sulom for the match to continue or not.
‘We are gathering facts on who instructed that the match be abandoned at such stage before thorough consultations were made and once investigations are done the general public will be made aware of the next steps that we are going to take’, said Banda.
Meanwhile Banda has warned match officials and teams to avoid taking the law in their own hand when such eventualities happen.
