TNM Plc to Increase Super League Sponsorship

Telekom Networks Malawi Limited (TNM), the proud sponsors of Malawi’s elite league, has reaffirmed its commitment to long-term sponsorship. The announcement was made by Chief Executive Officer, Michel Herbert, during the 2023 TNM Super League prize presentation ceremony held at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre on Friday, 19th January 2024.

Herbert expressed TNM’s pride in the league’s success over the years
emphasizing on the intense competition witnessed in the just-ended season.

He revealed TNM’s decision to triple the sponsorship package, and also extend its support to rural areas, aiming to develop the sport from the grassroots.

Herbert said the actual sponsorship deal would be revealed in due course when all processes are finalized.

“This has been a very successful season with intense competition amongst the teams so we as TNM are very much proud. We will triple the package so that we reach even in rural areas and develop the sport from the grassroot. I can’t disclose the figures until we complete the signing of the contract but it will be significantly high”, said Herbert to a loud applause of the excited audience.

He added that his company was aiming at empowering clubs by increasing prize money, supporting stakeholders with technologies such as E-ticketing, and enhance the overall value of the league.

In his remarks, President of the Super League of Malawi (SULOM), Colonel Gilbert Mitawa, acknowledged the sponsor’s commitment saying the rise would be phenomenal.

Mitawa anticipated a more competitive league with the prize money increase.

During the prize presentation, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Football Club were awarded MK40 million for clinching the 2023 championship, while Silver Strikers FC received MK15 million as runners-up. Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC secured MK7.5 million for finishing third, and Chitipa United Football Club pocketed MK2 million for being the most improved team.

Individual awards saw Mighty Mukuru Wanderers FC captain, Stanley Sanudi, named the best defender of the season, and FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ new recruit from Mighty Tigers Innocent Nyasulu, crowned the best goalkeeper. Patrick Mwaungulu from FCB Nyasa Big Bullets claimed both the Midfielder of the Season and Player of the Season awards.
