UNSTOPPABLE BULLETS SHUTTER SILVER’S TITLE AMBITIONS

As Civo maintain perfect run with away win

League leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets showed the character of a champion in the making as the people’s team came from a goal down in the second half to claim all the maximum points over defending champions Silver Strikers at
Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The People’s team had gone down to an Andrew Joseph second half strike after some poor defending following a dull first half which produced little or no goal scoring opportunities at both ends.

The 2 sides came into the match with different ambitions with Bullets aiming at extending their lead at the top while for Silver the mission was in 2 folds: first to avenge their first round opening defeat and second to narrow the points gap and stand any realistic chances of defending the championship they won last season after an 11 year drought.

Forward Andrew Joseph gave the Bankers the lead after 66 minutes. Captain Chikondi Kamanga saw his shot blocked by Bullets defenders, and Joseph who joined the Bankers during the mid-season transfer window was handy to pounce beating the advancing Innocent Nyasulu in Bullets goal.

All this was happening after Bullets gaffer Peter Mponda had effected a double half time substitution withdrawing Peter Banda and Captain Babatunde Adepoju for twin strikers Hassan Kajoke and Ephraim Kondowe.

Mponda’s substitutions proved magical as the People’s crawled their way into the match after 72 minutes as 3 substitutes combined well to level the matters.

Mike Mkwate initiated a move from the middle of the pack playing Hassan Kajoke through who released fellow substitute  Ephraim Kondowe to slot home.

From there Bullets went all guns blazing and just 6 minutes later they were awarded a penalty after Silver Goalie George Chikooka had fouled Bullets’ man of the moment Chikumbutso Salima.

Referee Mwai Msungama pointed to the spot and Hassan Kajoke made no mistake to ensure that Peter Mponda’s boys bag home all maximum points and maintain a 4 point lead over second placed Mighty Wanderers who won 0-1 away to
Dedza Dynamos at Dedza Stadium courtesy of a substitute Isaac Kaliati second half strike.

In Mzuzu, Civil United maintained their run of form as the Abbas Makawa boys survived a Mzuzu Hammers scare to collect all maximum points at Mzuzu Stadium.

Damiano Kunje fired the servants ahead at 16 minutes before Righteous Banda doubled the lead 10 minutes later.

The Hammers managed to pull one back from the spot through Hassan Luwembe who converted his penalty 4 minutes before the break.

In other fixtures a lone strike from Pius Saka at 71 minutes was all that the Area 30 police side needed to clinch the maximum points over Karonga United. As Creck played to a goalless draw against Chitipa United.
