WEEK FIVE WRAP

-Masters FC reclaim top spot

-Dedza still searching for first goal of the season

-Wanderers go third

Week five of FDH Bank premiership season will go down as one worth keeping in the record books.

The week probably produced the highest number of goals scored in a single match week this season as 21 goals were recorded.

The week also produced two hattricks with Masters’ Hastings Ndau becoming the first player to net a hatrick this season.

However, Ndau will not brag of the record to be the only one to have bagged a hatrick so far as on Wednesday Mighty Wanderers forward Lameck Mithi also took home the match ball after his hatrick helped Mighty Wanderers beat Karonga FC 4-1 to move into third place with 10 points from five games.

Earlier on Sunday, Masters FC reclaimed top spot with a thumping four nil victory over struggling Dedza Dynamos at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday night.

Masters winger Hastings Ndau made history for himself by becoming the first player to net a hatrick in the 2026-27 season.

Ndau added an icing to his outstanding performance by providing an assist for Erick Kaonga’s goal, deservedly earning the man of the match accolade.

That win means Peter Mponda’s boys reclaimed top spot which they relinquished last week after going down 3-0 to Silver strikers.

They have now become the first team this season to score four goals without a reply as the only other team that has come closer to achieving that feat is Ekhaya FC who beat KB FC 4-1 on Saturday.

As for Dedza, crisis meetings continue as the team has remained bottom with a single point from five games, piling more pressure on under fire head coach Alex Ngwira who has been given a three game ultimatum.

To add more misery, Dedza are yet to score a goal after 450 minutes of football.

Heads must surely be rolling in Dedza as things are not looking nice at all.

Elsewhere on Sunday, Karonga United pulled a surprise one nil win away at Civo Stadium.

Civil’s China Chirwa saw his poorly taken penalty kick kiss the cross bar as the civil servants pushed tooth and nail to salvage a point, but is was never meant to come much to the disappointment of head coach Abbas Makawa.

At Zomba Stadium, Silver Strikers failed to extend their stay at the top of the log table as the central bankers were frustrated to a 0-0 draw by defending champions Mighty Wanderers in an end to end affair played at the refurbished Zomba Stadium.

In the weekend’s other results, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets drew one all against Blue Eagles while Ekhaya FC’s resurgence continues as the Blantyre based side ran out 4-1 winners over Kamuzu Barracks at Champion stadium. At Zomba Stadium a lone goal from Mavuto Kamunga was enough for Red Lions to take home three points against fellow rookies LUANAR Mitundu. And at Rumphi Stadium Moyale returned to winning ways against Creck thanks to a 4-minute strike by Lucky Mkandawire.

So at the close of action in week five, the race for top spot is now shaping up with the top four teams now separated by just two points.
